At the young age of 18, I had the privilege of being elected as the Chairperson of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) International Model United Nations (WIMUM) in New York City, making me the first Jamaican Youth Leader to hold this position. Additionally, I had the opportunity to serve as the Secretary Director at WIMUM Geneva, Switzerland in 2020. These experiences have played a significant role in shaping my understanding of international diplomacy and strengthening my passion for global cooperation.
At the age of 21, while pursuing my undergraduate studies at the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTECH), I had the privilege of serving as the Vice Chairperson at the groundbreaking Global Model World Health Organization (WHO) 2023. This simulation program, established through a partnership between WFUNA and WHO in 2022, aimed to emulate the operations of the actual WHO accurately. It was an honour to be the first and only Youth Leader from Jamaica to achieve two international record-breaking accomplishments in the world's most renowned United Nations (UN) simulation.
These experiences have fueled my determination and dedication to the work of the UN, inspiring me to aspire to become the first Caribbean National to hold the esteemed position of Secretary General of the UN. Following in the footsteps of the esteemed Kofi Annan, the Seventh Secretary General of the UN, I aim to contribute significantly to the UN's mission and further promote global cooperation and progress.
What is a Model United Nations (MUN)?
Model United Nations (MUN) is an academic simulation of the United Nations organization whereby participants represent delegates from many different nations and discuss and debate global issues. MUN strives to enhance participants' comprehension and understanding of international relations, diplomacy, and the day-to-day functioning of the United Nations, as well as develop their abilities in public speaking, negotiation, critical thinking, and problem-solving. MUN conferences usually are organized by schools, universities, or non-profit organizations and include various activities such as committee sessions, plenary sessions, debates, and social events. Overall, MUN is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students and young professionals.

Additionally,
The Global Model WHO is a simulation program organized by WFUNA and the WHO to simulate the operations of the World Health Organization, which is a specialized agency of the United Nations that is responsible for promoting global health and well-being. Improving Diplomacy in future leaders: The conversation
Participating in WIMUN can significantly improve the diplomacy skills of future leaders. In WIMUN participants role-play as delegates from different countries, negotiating and collaborating with others to find solutions to complex global issues. Through this process, participants develop skills in diplomacy, including the ability to communicate effectively, build relationships, and negotiate agreements. These skills are invaluable for future leaders, whether they pursue careers in government, business, or civil society.
Moreover, WIMUN provides a safe and supportive environment for future leaders to practice diplomacy skills without real-world risks and consequences. This allows them to learn from mistakes and develop the confidence and resilience to navigate complex international situations. Additionally, by engaging with peers from diverse backgrounds, WIMUN participants develop cross-cultural understanding and empathy, which is essential for effective diplomacy in today's globalized world.
"Diplomacy is not a game of winning or losing, but a dance of cooperation and compromise, where every step forward is a step towards a better world."-Tajay Francis
Barack Obama demonstrated remarkable diplomacy during his tenure as the President of the United States, particularly in his engagements with the United Nations. His approach was characterized by a commitment to dialogue, cooperation, and multilateralism, and a willingness to engage with nations with whom the US had historically difficult relationships. Obama's speeches at the UN were notable for their emphasis on shared values and common goals, such as promoting peace, security, and human rights around the world. He also used his platform to address pressing global issues such as climate change, nuclear proliferation, and international conflicts. Through his diplomatic engagement with the UN, Obama was able to foster greater understanding and collaboration between the US and other nations and to promote a more positive and constructive role for the US in the international community. And should serve as the perfect example of what diplomacy should be.
