To give means to transfer your possessions freely to someone whether they are in need or not and also includes providing love and emotional support. Giving should be an everyday activity as it brings much joy to those who receive and even greater joy to the giver as they feel a sense of satisfaction that they have served others that are more in need. This season is usually associated with the month of December but do we really need to wait until then to give? Let’s use the word “giving” to emphasize how we can participate in the season of giving this year and onwards.
Gratitude- this means to be thankful and show appreciation for the kindness shown to you. Showing gratitude or being grateful this season allows others to know that you acknowledge their efforts in your life.
Illuminate- this refers to giving light and making an environment brighter. When we illuminate the lives of others it gives them hope for a better tomorrow. Giving this season can give hope to someone who has been struggling to get by this year. In addition, they will pass your light to someone else by doing a good deed.
Volunteerism- what a better way to give this season than to devote your time for the benefit of others. Volunteerism opens avenues for you to serve people especially those who are in need. This is a reflection of what the season of giving is all about.
Inspiration- being able to transfer your positive energy to others so that they can do the same is important this season. Inspiration consists of offering mental strength to those who seem strong and to those who have proven to be weak. Inspiration is more of a feeling; saying something positive will lead to positive thinking that will produce positive actions.
Necessity- this means whatever you do is important. Whenever we give we are reminded of the importance of sharing and what it means to give whole-heartedly. Giving reminds us of the compassion that we must have for humanity.
Gift- what would the season of giving be without gifts? Gifts can be those things that are wrapped and tied with a bow or they can be giving love, care and support. This season doesn’t be deaf, blind or dumb to gifts you may receive that are not wrapped and tied with a bow.
The season of giving can create a harmonious atmosphere that allows family members to come together, reflect on how far they have come, call loved ones that are far away and honour those who are no longer here to celebrate with them. When you give, do it willingly and never seek something in return. Give because you want others to feel special and that you want them to know you are thinking of them.
This article is dedicated to Christopher Giovanni St. Aubin Chin who never ceased to give, volunteer and shares his love with his family and others. Today is his birthday and even though he is no longer here we celebrate him for constantly reminding us that the season of giving is all year round.
