Responding to Failures

Red lights, stop signs, road closed; failures are one of those things that we have to go through in our lifetime. Though it may allow some of us to question our abilities we should not give up or give in whenever we fail. There are healthy and unhealthy ways to respond to failures but as always, we will be discussing healthy tips when responding to failures.
Embrace failure- failure is proof that you are trying. Whenever you fail it does not mean you did everything wrong it just means that you did not get everything right. Through experience comes wisdom and the more you do something, the better you get at it. Failure can be a pain but embrace it and learn from it.
Practice self-compassion- love yourself. It is through our failures that we learn things that we never knew. Give yourself a chance because you do not know what the results might be. The harder you are on yourself when you fail the more likely you are discouraged to try again.

Acknowledge your strengths- focusing on the things you are good at when you fail is a good start. This is a way you can feel better about yourself when the failure seems to be steering you in the face. Don’t ever forget that you are enough and that you can be successful no matter how long it takes.
Evaluate the steps you took-what are the things that you are doing to achieve a specific goal? Are these steps realistic and smart? Pause and assess the steps you took to achieve whatever goal you want and see if you can approach it differently the next time around. The mistakes made before will only be a stepping stone in moving forward.
Rest but never stop-sometimes we need a break before attempting to try again. At times, if we continue because of the need for success we lose the passion and miss the joys of the journey to success. Rest and return stronger than before with a clearer optimistic framework in mind.

Arianna Huffington said “Failure is not the opposite of success it is a part of success” and it resonated in my mind. When we achieve success it is the failures in the story and how we overcame them that makes the story so motivating to others and even ourselves. As Keznamdi featuring Chronixx said in his song “Sleepless nights under pressure, got a lot on my mind. What would life be without these struggles of mine…Victory when you’re winning it’s a sweet story but when you’re not then the war is bitter.” Failures can be bitter but never give up because when you win it will be a sweet story to tell.
