We make decisions every day. Not making a decision is a decision in itself. Conversely, the decision-making process in a person’s life is an essential element as that decision can determine the well-being of their life. The decisions we make every day weigh from the little things like eating or not eating breakfast to the bigger things like marrying someone or furthering your education. Some decisions are rewarding while some are accompanied by punishments but let us talk about five tips that can improve the decisions we make.
Do not stress about it- everyone perceives their life decisions differently and so persons may stress about simple decisions as these can impact more important ones. Stressing about decisions in your life will not make them go away and when you are stressed, you are unable to make a decision properly. Take a deep breath, clear your mind and trust your heart that you are making the right decision for your life.
Weigh the Pros and Cons- when making a decision it is important to weigh the pros and cons of the decision. You can construct a clear list of the benefits or the drawbacks of this decision and possible emotions or reactions that might be evoked after making them. All decisions you make should prove self-improvement so do not be afraid to choose yourself before others. Other decisions you make can be as a result of others such as your children, spouse, or someone of value to you. Just be sure that when you make these decisions it is somewhat of a benefit to you.

Think about your goals- when making decisions in your life you must consider how these decisions align with your goals. These goals can be personal growth goals, academic goals, family goals, and so forth. When we make a choice they impact everything we do, even our goals, even if we do not realize it. Don’t be a shallow thinker be a deep one as life is all about depth and not just what is on the surface
Consider all the possible outcomes – well there are two MAJOR possible outcomes; it was a bad decision or it was a good decision. Still, when making decisions we must conceptualize that the outcomes we expect may not be the ones that will be. It is within this time that we learn from this decision to make a better one when a similar situation arises. Do not be discouraged when you think you have made a wrong decision in your life but be thankful that you have the opportunity to not make that decision again. For those who may say they do not have the opportunity, consider it a life lesson and share that wisdom with others.

Plan how to tell others – in my second tip, I shared that some decisions we make can be a result of others and so we have to consider how to share our decisions with them. Your decisions not only affect or impact you but also others around you. Consider how they may react or feel due to your choice, think about different ways how you could tell them about your decision and why it is so important to you. Talking to persons who we consider important in our lives can help to make a decision easier or even harder but sometimes it’s important that we tell them.
Decisions can be extremely difficult to make as it feels like a constant battle between what you desire and the facts presented. Take time to relax and follow through with anything you decide. I’m hoping you will make the best decision for yourself without seeming selfish to others. Of course, these tips are general but apply them where possible. One of the most encouraging decisions of all time is to keep choosing you.
