Optimism is somewhat like faith; believing and hoping that there is better for the future. An optimistic mindset is a beautiful thing to have as one should always believe that no matter the circumstance things can and will get better. A friend told me that he finds an optimistic mindset to be very valuable because it provides hope in times of uncertainty and overwhelms fear which is the biggest obstacle in our lives. I could not agree more. While life can push you into having a pessimistic attitude, maintaining an optimistic mindset can allow you to see the good even in unfavorable outcomes. Let’s discuss five tips that we can follow to assist us with this.
Think positive – positive thoughts are the roots of positive actions. It takes enormous strength to think positive whenever we experience negative situations. An optimistic mindset is a lifestyle so make it a habit. It is encouraged to let your last thoughts about any situation be a good one as it is a part of the optimistic mindset process.
Surround yourself with people like you- your environment can influence your thoughts and vice versa. It is important to have positive individuals in your corner to encourage you along the way. Remember no man is an island and no man stands alone, stand with people like you, that is, positive people.

Do not dwell on the mistakes/failures- A mistake is the main ingredient of growth. We have a tendency to focus on the mistakes we’ve made and state that if we had known the outcome we would not have done whatever we did the way we did. The positive from this is you can learn from those failures.
Acknowledge what you can and cannot control- it is important to distinguish between matters that are in your control and those that are not. When you try to manage matters that are beyond your control you set yourself up for disappointment and that can kill any optimistic spirit. Do not drive yourself into the ground. Assess things reasonably and work diligently towards each goal you make for your life.
Create an attitude of gratitude- always be grateful in every situation. Things could have been worse than they actually are. It is within these moments where others share their stories we become grateful for the life we have. I say practice being grateful all the time and it will lead a happier life for you and those around you.
An optimistic mindset is always a work in progress. There is no need to play superhuman because we all do have negative experiences and are heavily affected by them. Still, we must not remain in these situations but keep moving forward. I do pray that after reading this we will all begin or continue to have an optimistic mindset that will produce a more productive life.
