Educator, Entrepreneur, Mom and so much more.

1. Tell us about your professional journey.
I always wanted to become a teacher, as a result, I have always been interested in this field. My grandmother- Mrs. Mavis Richards who was an Early Childhood educator would take me to workshops with her on the last Friday of every month, here I believe I started to garner certain skills. From a tender age, she would allow me to assist her in making her teaching aids and to even plan her lessons. From as early as age 10, I knew I waned to become a teacher. I would volunteer to teach at Vacation Bible School at my home church and teach at a National Youth Service Summer Reading Programme during high school. After graduating from high school, it was easy to just apply for Teachers’ College because I already knew what I wanted. After leaving Teachers’ College, I would have volunteered for a few years until I was blessed with a job. I am a teacher of Social Studies and I believe that every child can achieve success. As a result, I prepare for my lessons in such a way that facilitates differentiated learning. Along this journey, since 2014, I have positively impacted the lives of many, this is quite rewarding for me. I enjoy serving the people and this was what afforded me the opportunity to serve my parish as Justice of the Peace since 2019. For at least 2 years, I worked outside of the classroom and I must say that I was never comfortable. I was called to be a teacher! In short, I was back in the classroom. I was redirected to my love. I have encountered many hardships towards attaining my dream, seeing that I never gave up, confirmed that teaching is my passion.
2. What keeps you motivated?
Ultimately, the word of God keeps me motivated. I try to surround myself with all things positive, this include a devotional, constantly listening to praise and worship songs and other conscious lyrics. My son, my womb fruit, my blessing, he keeps me going! I know for sure that I can not give up because he is watching me. I know that I must keep pressing in spite of, in order to provide for him the best life possible. There are some females that I admire, and they definitely motivate me. These females include: Mrs. Carlene Williams-Heath, Ava-Gay Blair, Terri-Karelle, Basillia Barnaby-Cuff and Dr. Marsha Smalling… I can always depend on anyone of these ladies for a word that can push me out of any dark place.

3. You wear multiple hats, including Mom, Educator, and Entrepreneur. What strategies do you use to create a balance?
Wow! Trying to create that balance is never easy. I have to always create a schedule and stick to it as best as possible. Being a mom is a 24/7 job, therefore, there are days when I have to just drop everything and tend to my son upon his request. I must say that I multitask a lot, that is how I get things done, that is how I meet deadlines. It has never been easy but God continues to strengthen me. Most importantly, I have a very supportive team at home. Where there cannot be a balance, I have to prioritize and my family will always take precedence. I have realized that living in the moment helps too and also doing things impromptu, no plans, just see the opportunity and grab it! Finally, I include my family in all that I can. As a result, they feel a part of all that is happening. After all, we are a team and we are working together.
4. What is one advice you would give to the young women of today?
Young women, know who you are and whose you are. When you know who you are, the opinions of others will not affect you. Surround yourself with people who are able to encourage you along the right path and clap for others until it is your winning season.
5. Describe a chill day for Charlesha Baker.
A chill day is fun (telling stories, playing board games) and laughter with my family on my verandah whilst cooking and listening to our favorite songs. Sometimes it is just relaxing outside with Dr. Dre, in his pool while I take pictures of him.
